Wellspring Craniofacial Group’s Dr. Jeffrey Cone was recently interviewed on KVUE-TV about treatment options for babies born with ear deformities.
Between 15%-29% of babies are born with this condition affecting the shape and development of the ears. Surgery to correct the ear’s growth and appearance must be done in the first few two weeks following birth when the tissues are most malleable, so swiftness and skill are of the essence.
Baby Isabella Hartman was able to avoid surgery because Dr. Cone used an innovative and sophisticated silicone ear mold system, known as an Earwell™, to create a newer and more typical shape for her tiny ears.
The Earwell molds were approved for use by the FDA in 2014, and are covered by most major insurance groups if used for treatment early on following a diagnosis of an ear deformity.
